"either as a hostage or what we call a forest bride"
So, I was talked into making a vid. For The Adventures of Sean Bean and His Highway Brides The Hitcher. To "Girlfriend".

I suspect I ought to be way more ashamed of myself than I am.

This is the crap youtube version, because Firefox froze on me in the middle of uploading a slightly better-quality one to imeem. Hopefully I'll have a better one up in a few hours, on the off chance that anyone wants it. This is the imeem one, which is much brighter and more watchable.

Shall have the zombiepocalypse post up shortly, too. YAY ZOMBIES.

\o/ Hooray!

Ask me about my theory where the entire thing is a dream Grace has either right before or right after she dumps her boyfriend. IT MAKES SO MUCH MORE SENSE THEN.

I respect you too much to lie to you: IT'S NOT A GOOD MOVIE. As a slasher film, however, it's at least decent, and I have a guilty fondness for it, because there's so much that I find fun that I can enjoy it and consider it completely worth the $15 or so I spent on the DVD.

And actually, if you go in with the 'it's all a dream Grace has right before/after she dumps Jim' theory in place, I've found that suddenly all the plot holes and apparent stupidity that are the curse of most unremarkable slasher flicks become much more tolerable, because hello, it's a dream, things just happen that way in dreams. You're just walking along and Sean Bean racks your boyfriend and tries to make you his highway bride, you know?

BUT BASICALLY the only way it could hit more of my buttons for 'YAY AWESOME' is if Grace had Oldest Sibling Issues. Or if there was a snappy dance number* or historical setting.

*The big intense chase scene is in fact set to "Closer", though, which is ALMOST as good.

I feel about this film the way a lot of the SPN fans on my flist talk about it: this is not a good movie by any stretch of the imagination, but it's SO MUCH FUN that I can't help loving it.

(I have personally come to believe that the entire thing is actually a dream that Grace has either right before or right after she dumps her boyfriend.)

Haha, which is funny, cause that's mostly how I feel about Smallville fans.

And that would be A+, for real.

I know, right? And in the slasher film, traditionally, the killer is somehow hideous or deformed, and often cloaked or masked throughout much of the film anyway. So that he's, you know, Sean Bean, looking quite fit, ends up fueling my new "it's all a dream Grace has after she decides to break up with her 'whiny fucking boyfriend'" theory, because her subconscious is creating this scenario where it's clearly not her fault that the relationship ended, because a handsome psychopath came in and did it for her.

EVERY DAY IS A NEW STRUGGLE, AMY.

Also, I think the way I feel about this movie is the way sane SPN fans feel about that show. There is no chance of its being mistaken for a good movie in any universe, and yet. SEAN BEAN AND HIS HIGHWAY BRIDES! EXPLOSIONS! GIRL WITH SHOTGUN!

(Which is clearly a metaphor for how she's going to get a strap-on, bend him over the hood of a car, and fuck him in the ass. But that's neither here nor there.)

I like to think of it more as us SHARING pain. Not your pain; OUR pain. TOGETHER.

And not so much "pain" as "joy".

But other than that, EXACTLY.

You are so completely right.

With the admission that Hitcher takes itself far more seriously than Mammoth does, which means it's not quite an epic win on that level. But then, what could really measure up?

And it does have Sean Bean, which, as much as I love Mammoth, is something that it's really lacking.

...good God, I just pictured Mammoth with Sean Bean, and it is possibly the most beautiful thing ever conceived by man or God. I think I would be moved to tears of joyful awe if it ever came to pass.

I will make the same point that Bernard Cornwell does on being asked if there are going to be more Sharpe movies: given that he has three ex-wives and two teenage daughters, he could certainly use the money. And looking at the standard he has set for himself, between this and National Treasure (and can we talk about what an incredible injustice it is that he is not going to be in National Treasure II? TRAGEDY!), he is not going to be picky.

Please, as if he could have a better career choice than Mammoth II?

NOTHING IS GREATER THAN THAT. EVERYTHING IS LESS THAN THAT.

LESS THAN MAMMOTH WILL REPLACE LESS THAN THREE AS THE SUM OF ALL THINGS AWESOME.

(reposted for buggered up html, sorry)

*falls off chair laughing* This is the sickest thing the funniest thing I have ever seen. Also, I think that is probably how some slasher film directors actually see their films.
